Tenant Insurance Contents

Renting a property comes with a lot of responsibilities such as paying your rent and utility bills. That’s why many tenants overlook contents insurance. It’s not a requirement to ensure your gadgets, but think about how much it would cost to replace them if they are stolen or damaged by fire.
If you have expensive gadgets in your property such as: iPod, iMac, laptops, smartphones, flat TV’s etc, it may be a good idea to ensure them.

What does contents insurance cover?

Typically, contents insurance cover your possessions against loss or damage by fire, smoke, theft, and flood. Different insurers offer different policies, thus check with your insure what is covered. Some insurers may not cover your contents if you live in shared accommodation.

It’s a good idea to notify the insurer if you have something valuable. Most insurers will set a maximum limit per item, usually around £1,500. So, if you have items with a higher value such as jewellery or watches, its best to list these items separately on the policy.

Please note that quotes vary in prices, so shop around to find the best deal possible!
Furthermore, the cheapest quote may not always be the right cover. You could be left struggling with money, if you have to make a claim later.

Always check the policy small print to see exactly what is covered and what is not. In that way, you can be sure that you are getting a sufficient level of cover when needed. When you receive your policy check that the details are correct and, if there is any mistakes notify the insurer at the earliest opportunity.
